The trials assessed the Rogers' as a research tool. Criteria used in the assessment were weed and drift control in direct comparison to a conventional research plot sprayer.
The first trial evaluated control of stinkweed (Thlaspi arvense), wild mustard (Sinapsis arvensis), wild buckwheat (Polygonum convolvulus) by a single herbicide applied with both sprayers. The Windfoil sprayer, when set up to deliver conventional spray volumes at standard speed and pressure achieved equivalent levels of weed control to the standard sprayer over the range of weed species and herbicide rates evaluated. When the Windfoil was set up to deliver very low application volumes at high speeds and pressures weed control was erratic.
The second trial evaluated drift control with the Windfoil sprayer in winds ranging from 0 to 25 kph. The Roger's sprayer was set up to deliver l00L/La volume at a ground speed of 8 kph and 260 kpas. The trial demonstrated the extent of drift in winds of less than 10 kph with a conventional sprayer. The Windfoil sprayer controlled drift in up to 20 kph winds.
